Description
Hands Healing HeArts, an innovative partnership between local artists and Franklin County Drug Court, invites the community to the Grand Theater at 7:30pm on May 11th for Celebrating Recovery: A Community Arts Event. Doors will open at 6:30pm, allowing guests time before the program to view the collection of life-sized, three-dimensional self-portraits created by program participants. The event will showcase the creative work and life journeys of twelve women – the project’s inaugural participants – and will feature: • The self-portrait sculpture exhibit, installed on stage with accompanying audio; • Several short dramatic performances, written and directed by Karen Hatter based on participants’ writing; • A short documentary film, produced by Joanna Hay, that chronicles the first year of the Hands Healing HeArts project; • Screening of a music video for “Bent not Broken,” written by Jeri Katherine Howell and Nat Colten using the words of Hands Healing HeArts participants; and • A “narrative stage” discussion with selected participants about their experiences using art to heal from addiction.
