Liberty Hall will open its doors to the community on Saturday, July 4th to welcome the public to its annual free community event, An Old-Fashioned Fourth of July, from 2 to 4 p.m. The highlight of this year?s event is a free concert by the 202nd Army Band of the Kentucky National Guard at 3:15 p.m., with a reading of the Preamble to the United States Constitution by a local celebrity. Other activities will include children?s games with prizes, old-fashioned lawn games, and activities intended for all age levels, like face painting. Two scavenger hunts, one in the garden with the ?Founding Fathers?, and one inside Liberty Hall, will entertain the kids and be a way to get to know the historic site. Free watermelon and lemonade will be on hand, and you can have your photo taken with the Honorable Mr. Froggy and Lady Cricket from 104.9. Beat the heat with a ?run through the sprinklers? as Liberty Hall once again will turn on its large irrigation system on the lawn of the Orlando Brown House. Returning this year is the Patriotic Wheels contest and parade. The community is encouraged to decorate their bicycles, wagons, children?s strollers, and any other non-motorized vehicle and enter them in the contest for a chance to win tickets to Kentucky Kingdom. The parade will be at 2:30 p.m., so be sure to get to the staging area next to Liberty Hall by 2:15 p.m. Bring a blanket and enjoy a relaxing afternoon on the grounds of Liberty Hall, a National Historic Landmark, and former home of Senator John Brown, Kentucky?s first senator. Admission to the event is free, and is sponsored in part by Farmers Bank and Capital Trust Company, with support from Cap City Communications and Froggy 104.9. Use 218 Wilkinson Street entrance.
