Description
Meet 2018 Fall Arts Festival guest artist, Peyton Scott Russell during his artist talk at The Grand Theatre in historic downtown Frankfort. This is a FREE event! Dinner will follow at Mi Fiesta, join us there if you’d like. Russell will show images of his work and share his ideas and process with the audience, there will be a brief reception after the talk in the upstairs gallery. He is an accomplished artist working/residing in Minneapolis, MN, practicing graffiti art for 30+ years and promoting this aesthetic through education. He earned a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 91 and founded Juxtaposition Arts in 95, which is a nonprofit after school arts program teaching youth to create portfolios, interpret art, exhibit their work and partner with organizations. He was selected as Jerome Fellow at Franconia Sculpture Park in 01 and 08. Awarded a Bush Fellowship in 12, he developed SPRAYFINGER: which is an organization teaching youth, adults, senior citizens and teachers the concepts and history of letter structure, aerosol control and using names to create art. He has taken this concept across the world to Mexico, MN, WI, N. and S. Dakota. In 2015, he began one2one mural jam sessions at his studio sharing styles and methods with one other selected artist. He served as artist in residence at the Minneapolis Institute of Art in 2016-17 and was featured on PBS MN Original Artist Series in 2016. He has participated in solo and collaborative exhibitions and murals in MN, Chicago, NYC, FL, Argentina and Yugoslavia. https://youtu.be/XWPPgH0SCTY This event is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Arts and the Grand Theatre.
